How do I appeal my assessment?
Differences over the valuation of property are handled by the Assessment Appeals Board. This is an independent board composed of three private citizens (and two alternates) appointed by the County Board of Supervisors. They consider all evidence presented by the property owner and the Assessor's Office at a formal hearing.
The Appeals Boards then determines the value of the property in question. Appeals for regular assessments must be filed between July 2 and November 30. Appeals on supplemental assessments must be filed within 60 days of the date on the supplemental notice. The Assessors Office is always willing to attempt to remedy value disputes, but you must come into our office or call in order to bring the matter to our attention.
