Fire Chief Charlie Norman

Fire Chief Charlie Norman began his career in the fire service in 1985 as a Seasonal Firefighter with CAL Fire and as a Reserve Firefighter with the Visalia Fire Department.  Chief Norman served with the Kings County Sheriff’s Department from 1987-1989 and the Kings County Fire Department from 1989-1992.  In January of 1992 Chief Norman was hired as a Firefighter with the City of Visalia. He promoted through the ranks to the position of Battalion Chief, which he has held since April of 2002.  During this time he has served in the capacity of Fire Marshal, Admin/Training Chief, and Operations Chief. 

 

In May of 2014, Chief Norman was hired as Emergency Services Division Chief with the Tulare County Fire Department. Chief Norman was appointed Fire Chief of the Tulare County Fire Department on January 5th 2016 by the Tulare County Board Of Supervisors. Chief Norman has earned his State Fire Marshal certification as a Fire Officer, Chief Officer, Hazardous Materials Specialist, Fire Investigator and Fire Instructor.  Chief Norman has an extensive training in Emergency Medical Services, Hazardous Materials and Fire Investigation.

Chief Norman holds a degree in Fire Science from the College of Sequoias and majored in Organizational Leadership at Chapman University.  Chief Norman has also taught in both the College of the Sequoias and Fresno City College Fire Science Programs.  During his time off, Chief Norman enjoys outdoor activities, coaching, community involvement and spending time with his family. He is proud to be affiliated with a profession and agency that is able to make a difference in people's lives.
