JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT (JAG) FOR FY 2017
The County of Tulare is applying for Federal Fiscal Year (FY) 2017 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program funds. The U.S. Department of Justice program provides assistance to law enforcement agencies to implement and continue effective crime-reduction strategies. The County’s allocation under the FY 2017 JAG program is $37,571. The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office plans to use the grant to partially fund deputies in the Tulare County School Safety Program. Participating school districts pay the balance of the costs for the program. These school resource officers have been very well received by students, school officials, and community members in the communities the program serves. Tulare County residents wishing to express an opinion on how these JAG funds should be allocated can call Sheriff’s Captain Larry Micari at (559) 636-4712 or express their opinion at a meeting of the Tulare County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, August 29, 2017. The Board meeting will be conducted at 2800 W. Burrel Ave. in Visalia. The meeting will start at 9 a.m. For more information, call (559) 636-5000.
