The County of Tulare is applying for Fiscal Year (FY) 2016 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program funds. The U.S. Department of Justice program provides assistance to law enforcement agencies to implement and continue effective crime-reduction strategies. The County’s allocation under the FY 2016 JAG program is $46,020. The Tulare County Sheriff’s Department plans to use the grant to partially fund deputies in the Tulare County School Safety Program. Participating school districts pay the balance of the costs for the program. These school resource officers have been very well received by students, school officials, and community members in the communities the program serves. Tulare County residents wishing to express an opinion on how these JAG funds should be spent can call Sheriff’s Capt. Keith Douglass at 636-4715 or express their opinion at a meeting of the Tulare County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, June 14, 2016. The Board meeting will be conducted at 2800 W. Burrel Ave. in Visalia. The meeting will start at 9 a.m. For more information, call 636-5000.
