TULARE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS NAMES NEW County Counsel

VISALIA, CA – On September 15, 2020, the Board of Supervisors voted to appoint Jennifer Mendoza Flores as County Counsel, effective October 11, 2020. The vote was made at the motion of Supervisor Amy Shuklian and seconded by Supervisor Dennis Townsend. The motion was approved 5-0. Flores fills the County Counsel position which was held since 2017 by Deanne Peterson prior to her recent retirement.

“I am confident that Jennifer is an excellent choice for Tulare County Counsel,” stated Board Chairman Pete Vander Poel. “Her experience as Chief Deputy Counsel, her organizational knowledge, and her communication abilities will add value to our organization.”

She began her work in public service in 2010, working for the Foundation for California Community Colleges in Sacramento. In 2011, she became a Deputy County Counsel for Tulare County working on the Resource Team. She later transitioned to the Labor and Employment Team, continuing to advise the County in a variety of legal subject areas. She later promoted to the rank of Chief Deputy in 2015, and served in that capacity until her appointment as County Counsel.

CAO Jason T. Britt stated, “I look forward to working with Jennifer in her new role. Her knowledge and expertise will serve the County very well.”

Flores is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara and received her Juris Doctorate degree from Pacific McGeorge School of Law, with a concentration in tax law.
