The Tulare County Public Law Library is established under the authority of California Business & Professions Code, Division 3, Chapter 5, Sections 6300 through 6363. California statutes have provided for a free Public Law Library - a separate governmental entity - in each county of the State since 1891. With the most extensive law library system in the country today, California’s law libraries serve on the frontlines of the public's access to justice.
Celebrating its 132nd anniversary on May 21, the Tulare County Public Law Library serves the citizens, legal professionals, and judicial officers of Tulare County. The library focuses on California legal practice materials and resources for non-attorneys and attorneys. Unlike other public libraries, the Law Library is funded by a small share of the superior court civil case filing fee collected in Tulare County and receives no tax support or appropriation from the county's general fund.
