On the above date and time and unknown suspect called the victim posing as a member of the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department. The suspect told the victim she had a warrant for her arrest and that if she did not pay the fines immediately deputies would respond to her house and arrest her. The suspect maintained phone contact with the victim and directed her to a local grocery store to purchase a prepaid credit card totaling $1200. She was then directed to provide the security code number from the card to the suspect over the phone. The suspect told the victim that her warrants would now be cleared and she would no longer be facing arrest.
The public should be made aware that the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department, nor any other law enforcement agency we are aware of, does not conduct business in this manner and we do not serve arrest warrants, collect fine or fees over the phone. If you receive a call of this nature hang up and contact your local police agency or the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department.
