Communities of Interest

The State constitution defines a community of interest as a  contiguous population which shares common social and economic interests that should be included within a single district for purposes of its effective and fair representation. Communities of interest are given priority consideration in the redistricting process under Redistricting Criteria #4 and the County relies on members of the public to define their communities so that they may be considered when making changes to supervisorial district boundaries.

How to define your community of interest?

  1. What are the economic, social, and/or cultural interests that your community shares?
  2. Where is your community located geographically?
  3. Is your shared interest within the policy jurisdiction of Tulare County?
