Pete Vander Poel III, District 2 - Vice Chair

Supervisor Pete Vander Poel III serves as Tulare County Supervisor representing District Two, which includes the city of Tulare and the communities of Allensworth, Alpaugh, Earlimart, Pixley, Teviston, Tipton, Waukena, and surrounding rural areas. He was first elected to the Board of Supervisors in 2008.

Supervisor Vander Poel was born and raised in Tulare County, where he lives happily with his wife, Ashley, and three children: Pete John, Emmilene, and James. He was educated in the Tulare public school system, graduating as a valedictorian from Tulare Union High School. He then graduated cum laude from the College of Honors University of California, Los Angeles, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Studies and a minor in Accounting. During college, Pete was in a serious car accident in Tipton in March 2004, resulting in a coma for 10 days. The doctors’ prognosis was not good, but to everyone’s surprise, he fully recovered, missing school while undergoing six months of rigorous therapy. In the fall of  2004, he returned to UCLA and picked up right where he left off, ultimately graduating on schedule in 2006.

Prior to his election to the Tulare County Board of Supervisors, Supervisor Vander Poel worked full-time as a tax consultant, a financial analyst, and then a company controller.
