We’ve started feeling the crispness in the morning air, the annual sign that fall is upon us.  Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because it’s a time to reflect on all that is good in my life. No doubt that this year has been more difficult to find the good, but it’s there.

This year has been an incredibly challenging year for Tulare County residents and employees.  The COVID-19 pandemic has affected nearly every aspect of our lives. One segment of the population that is seemingly overlooked during this time is school aged children and their needs. I am approached on a regular basis with the question, “When are our children returning to school?”

Tulare County spans over 4,800 square miles, of which over half is part of the Sequoia National Forest/Monument, Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Parks, and Bureau of Land Management lands. We have a beautiful back-country that complements our productive agriculture. Our mountains and forests provide enormous recreation opportunities. Those same places also bring additional risks.

TULARE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS NAMES NEW County Counsel

On September 15, 2020, the Board of Supervisors voted to appoint Jennifer Mendoza Flores as County Counsel, effective October 11, 2020. The vote was made at the motion of Supervisor Amy Shuklian and seconded by Supervisor Dennis Townsend. The motion was approved 5-0. Flores fills the County Counsel position which was held since 2017 by Deanne Peterson prior to her recent retirement.

The Truth Act Forum is being held in the Board of Supervisors Chambers at 2800 W. Burrel Ave., in Visalia, at 2:00 p.m. on September 29, 2020. This forum is held pursuant to Government Code section 7283.1 to receive public comment regarding federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) access to individuals for civil immigration enforcement that was given by County law enforcement departments in 2019.

County Civic Center Issues Boil Water Notice

The Tulare County Civic Center, which services the Courts, Courthouse Departments, the Main Jail, Human Resources & Development, General Services Agency (GSA), County Counsel, the Board of Supervisors, and the County Administrative Office is under a boil water notice after regular monthly water samples taken from the well came up positive for coliform in the water.
