Former Agricultural & Standards Inspector IV, Tesfaye Jimma, has been promoted to the position of Deputy Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer in charge of the Pest Exclusion & Standardization Division by Tulare’s Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer, Tom Tucker. He will be filling the position recently held by Deputy Ag Commissioner, Nicole Motley, who moved to be in charge of the Department’s Pesticide Use Enforcement Division. Tesfaye will assume his new role immediately.
Tesfaye was born and grew up in Ethiopia, Oromia regional State. Tesfaye attended Haramaya University in Ethiopia where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in plant science and more recently received his Master of Public Administration (MPA) from California State University, Fresno.
Tesfaye started his career with Tulare County Agricultural Commissioner/Sealers Office in August of 2008 as an Ag & Standards Inspector Trainee. He was promoted to a District Supervisor in charge of the Lindsey District Office, then later promoted to a Supervising Ag & Standards Inspector IV in June of 2019 within the Pest Exclusion & Standardization Division.

As the Deputy Agricultural Commissioner in charge of our Pest Exclusion & Standardization, Tesfaye will oversee one of our department’s largest divisions. Tesfaye will direct and oversee staff performing intensive Phytosanitary inspections and certificate issuances (Export Program), Fruit & Vegetable Standardization & quality inspections, Nursery inspections, and Quarantine compliance.

Tesfaye currently resides in Visalia with his wife Roza, and their two sons Noah (5), and Liam (2). Tesfaye will assume his new position immediately.
