Tulare County Parks was selected as a recipient of grant funding through the California Extreme Heat and Community Resilience Program (EHCRP). This program supports projects focused on climate adaptation, including infrastructure development, heat action planning, and emergency preparedness.
The grant portion of $379,000, along with additional matching funds from the County, will be used to purchase and install shade structures over playgrounds in three County parks located in the underserved communities of Alpaugh, Ledbetter, and Woodville.
“We’re honored to receive this funding, which will allow us to make vital improvements to our parks that help protect Tulare County residents from extreme heat. These investments are essential for building resilience, particularly for our most vulnerable populations who are disproportionately affected by heat waves,” said Tulare County General Services Agency Director, Brooke Sisk.
Over the last five years the Tulare County General Services Agency has carried out renovations totaling over $14 million across all 11 parks under its management. These improvements were made possible through funding from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), local County funds, and other grants. Additional funding from the Extreme Heat and Community Resilience Program (EHCRP) grant will further complement these renovations by providing shade and heat protection during the summer months.
