Just after 10 p.m. on 7/23/2020, TCSO Deputies were called to the 4100 block of Ave. 400 in Kingsburg for a shooting.

When Deputies arrived, they found a 47-year-old man who had been shot multiple times. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

During their investigation, TCSO Detectives contacted several neighbors and witnesses and they were able to identify 34-year-old Gerardo Ortega of Kingsburg as a person of interest. Ortega lived on the same property as the victim.

Around 8:45 a.m. on 7/24/2020, Detectives tracked Ortega down to the area of South and Frankwood in Reedley and he was taken into custody without incident.

Detectives also located an assault rifle, which, they believe, was used during the shooting.

Ortega is being booked into the Adult Pre-Trial Facility.
