On 05/07/16 at approximately 1715 hours, Investigators with the Sheriff’s Departments Gang Violence Suppression Unit were conducting Gang Suppression Patrol in the Community of Richgrove when they saw a vehicle commit a traffic violation. The driver of the vehicle stopped his vehicle in the area of Vineyard and Bibee and fled on foot. While running from the investigators he was seen throwing a handgun over a fence into a backyard.

The investigators caught the subject who was identified as Gonzalo Guerrero, a Southern Gang member from Delano. After a short foot chase, he was taken into custody without incident. The investigators retraced the route where Guerrero was seen throwing the handgun. In the yard where the handgun was found there were several small children playing who had access to the gun thus endangering them. It was noted the serial number to the handgun had been filed off as well.
