Dep. Randolph named Officer of the Year

On March 1, 2018, Sheriff Mike Boudreaux named Dep. David Randolph Officer of the year during the Porterville Exchange Club’s annual public safety awards dinner at the Porterville Veterans Memorial Building.

Dep. Randolph has always been considered a leader and top performer, said Sheriff Mike Boudreaux.

“He continues to represent the vision of the Office of the Sheriff with the utmost professionalism and dedication to the communities of Tulare County,” he said.

Dep. David Randolph was born into a law enforcement family beginning with his great grandfather who retired from the Fresno Police Department. One of his grandfathers served with the Woodlake Police Department and the other one with the California Highway Patrol.

Upon completion of high school, Dep. Randolph attended College of the Sequoias and attained his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice before attending the P.O.S.T. Basic Police Academy in 2012.

He was hired with the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office and assigned to the Porterville Substation. In 2013, he was awarded the Valley Hero Award for a high profile arrest of a dangerous wanted suspect on the Reservation.

Dep. Randolph had long dreamed of becoming a canine handler and he achieved that goal in 2015 when he was paired with his K-9 partner, Johnny. They were assigned to the Porterville Substation where they proved a successful team. They are credited in the apprehension of several suspects.

Dep. Randolph and Johnny have competed in various canine trials throughout the state and won multiple awards including back-to-back First Place Novice Awards at the Sierra K9 Trial and Bakersfield Police K9 Trial. The team has represented Tulare County at competitions as far away as Riverside and always scores in the top of their class.

Dep. Randolph was chosen as a Field Training Officer in 2016 and tasked with the increased responsibility of training new recruits. His attention to detail and training style have made him one of the top trainers within the department. This is a responsibility he takes very seriously and has demonstrated a passion for teaching.
Dep. Randolph was recently selected and became a certified driving instructor for the department.
