On July 11, 2014 at approximately 9:12 PM Officers were dispatched to a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian on Visalia Road just West of Farmersville Blvd. Upon arrival officers located a subject that had been struck by a vehicle in the number two east bound lane of Visalia Road just west of Farmersville Blvd. near the most westerly driveway to the Fast-Trip gas station. The subject, later identified as Rafael Velasquez of Farmersville, appeared to have major head, chest, and leg injuries and was subsequently transported to Kaweah Delta Regional Medical Center where he later died.
Witnesses at the scene indicated that the victim appears to have been attempting to cross the roadway about 30 yards west of the controlled intersection and was in the roadway when he was struck by the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle, a gray Toyota Tacoma Pick-up truck, was interviewed and released from the scene after providing a statement. Neither the driver nor his adult passenger suffered any injuries.
