Deputies from the Tulare County Sheriff's Dept. Headquarters Patrol Unit were dispatched to a residence in the 4900 Block of Ave 309, Goshen.  Deputies were advised family members had called the dispatch center stating a family member was intoxicated and becoming increasingly violent towards them.  Deputies arrived and noted a male Hispanic in a physical altercation with several other males.  The deputy attempted to detain this subject, but he physically resisted both control hold attempts and verbal commands.  The deputy deployed his tazer and after warnings fired it once, striking the suspect in the chest.  The suspect continued to resist, but was handcuffed with family assistance.   The suspect was placed into the rear of a marked patrol unit where the suspect proceeded to smash his head into the side window, breaking the window.   The suspect was removed from the vehicle and additional restraints were placed on him.

The suspect was transported to Kaweah Delta Hospital to be examined as the tazer had been used to arrest him.  Once cleared medically, the suspect was booked into the Tulare County Main Jail on charges of public intoxication, resisting arrest, and vandalism.   A "Hold" was placed by the California Department of Corrections as the suspect was also on CDC Parole.

Case status: Active - pending further investigation and review  by the Tulare County DA's office.
