On 05/16/14 at approx. 2230 hours Deputies from the Tularte County Sheriff’s Department Pixley Substation responded to the Delano Regional Medical Center in regards to a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Upon their arrival the deputies learned that the victim had since been transported to the Kern Regional Medical Center in Bakersfield for treatment of life threatening wounds. The victim, a 20 year old Hispanic Male, suffered a single gunshot wound to his abdomen area and succumbed to his wounds.
The Sheriff’s Departments Violent Crimes Unit was called to investigate the incident. The investigation revealed the victim and suspect who were friends were drinking at the victim’s residence when the suspect mishandled a handgun when the weapon fired and struck the victim one time in the abdomen area. The victim was transported by private vehicle to Delano Regional Medical center and then to Kern Regional Medical Center by Ambulance. The suspect was contacted and taken into custody without incident. He was later booked at the Tulare County Main Jail on the listed charge.
The victim’s name is not being released at this time pending notification of the next of kin and the cause of death will be determined by the Tulare County Sheriff’s Departments Coroner Division. No other information is being released at this time.
