K-9 passes away

With sadness, Sheriff Boudreaux announces the passing of one of the department’s K-9s, Kaytu.  The 6-year-old Belgian Malinois died from an intestinal blockage, which may have been attributed to the extreme warm temperatures.

Kaytu and his handler, Sheriff’s Dep. Corey Evans, were stationed out of the Pixley Substation until recently when they were moved to Headquarters Patrol.

Kaytu served the department for five years. During that time, he apprehended 11 suspects, located two guns and was credited for two suspects surrendering. He also participated in eight bomb searches.

Sheriff Boudreaux said Kaytu was one of the best dogs in the department.

“Our hearts go out to Dep. Evans and all of our K-9 handlers who worked with him and Kaytu,” Sheriff Boudreaux said.

Kaytu was the second K-9 graciously donated by the Sence Foundation.
