On July 3, 2018, the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of the Tea Cups Trailhead, in the Sequoia National Forest, after a report was received of two hikers missing.
The hikers had separated from two other hikers in the area, who reported the missing hikers to authorities. A TCSO Search & Rescue team responded to the area early this morning, and at 2:00 a.m. a search began for the two missing hikers.
At about 4:30 a.m., our Search & Rescue team found the missing hikers and discovered one of the hikers was very sick. A California Highway Patrol helicopter assisted with our search and helped hoist the sick hiker to a safe location, where he was then taken to a local hospital for further treatment. The other hiker was walked out to safety and reunited with the rest of the group.
The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind everyone to be sure and take plenty of food and water when going out on hiking/camping trips in our area.
