Violation of probation, resisting arrest

On 2-4-15 at approximately 1700, Tulare County Sheriff's Department Gang Violence Suppression Unit Detectives were conducting a probation and compliance check in the 30600 Block of Road 72 when a male subject was contacted by detectives.  The subject fled from officers, and Gang Unit detectives pursued the subject on foot for a short distance. They confronted him a second time in the 7200 Block of Avenue 308 where he was located hiding beneath a tree and attempting to concealing himself and his hands. Detectives ordered the subject several times to show them his hands and comply with their instructions, and during this time a single shot was fired at the subject by a detective. Neither the subject nor detectives were injured as a result of the shot being fired and the subject was taken into custody without further incident.

Sheriff Mike Boudreaux has requested the Visalia Police Department to investigate the officer involved shooting. Per department policy, the involved detective was placed on administrative leave.

A detective who was responding to this call and driving northbound on Lovers Lane, became involved in a traffic collision in the intersection of Lovers Lane and Caldwell. The deputy is uninjured and the parties in the second vehicle sustained minor injuries and were taken to a local area hospital for treatment. Sheriff Boudreaux has asked the California Highway Patrol to investigate this incident.
