PIER FIRE SECOND COMMUNITY MEETING – SEPTEMBER 5TH  
 
Residents affected by the Pier Fire are encouraged to attend a follow up community meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at Porterville Community College located at 100 E. College Ave. in Porterville. The meeting is set to begin at 6 p.m. and will take place in the Student Center.  
 
The Interagency Incident Management Team 5 overseeing operations of the Pier Fire will be on hand along with representatives from Tulare County Fire Department, Tulare County Sheriff’s Office, and U.S. Forest Service.   
 
The Pier Fire, which began on Aug. 29 in Tulare County, still poses a threat to the communities of Pierpoint Springs, Balch Park road Highway 190, Bear Creek, Camp Wishon, Doyle Springs, Alpine Village, Sequoia Crest, Cedar Slope, Camp Nelson, Upper Rio Vista, Cow Mountain, Mountain Aire, Rogers Camp, and SCICON Area.

The communities of Springville and Ponderosa are currently under voluntary evacuation.

No residents are being allowed back into the mandatory evacuated areas at this time.  
 
An Evacuation Shelter has been set up at Porterville College in the gymnasium . For more information on the Evacuation Center, please contact the American Red Cross at 1-800-REDCROSS. The Evacuation Shelter is able to accommodate pets. All evacuees are welcome at this Shelter site.   
 
Current road closures include Highway 190 between the Balch Park turnoff above Springville, Fox Road along the Western Divide, Balch Park at Yokhol Valley Road, and Balch Park at Bear Creek Road.
