While Undersheriff Skiles said he’s been looking forward to his retirement, leaving his colleagues behind is not easy.

“This is harder than I thought it was going to be,” he said. “You build relationships with people in this agency and go through indescribable things with them that makes it very hard to leave.”

Sheriff Boudreaux said Undersheriff Skiles will be greatly missed.

“Undersheriff Skiles was more than my right-hand man,” he said. “We have been partners throughout this department for the last 31 years. He is my good friend, as well as my Undersheriff. I am sad to see him go, but wish him the best on his retirement.”

Undersheriff Skiles said he is grateful to the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office.

“I appreciate each and every one of you,” he said. “If you ever need anything, I will always be here. From the bottom of my heart, thank you all for everything.”
