UPDATE: Missing Person Adult Cause of Death Undetermined

***************************UPDATE***************************

In the case of missing person, Charles Harold Hood of Porterville, whose body was found April 27, 2018 at Fort Hunter Liggett, the Monterey County Sheriff's Office has said the cause of death is undetermined and there were no signs of foul play.

On 7/9/18, the Monterey County Sheriff's Office identified the human remains found April 27, 2018 at Fort Hunter Liggett, as that of Charles Harold Hood, 82, of Porterville.

He was identified through the California Department of Justice Missing Persons DNA program, using DNA samples gathered from Mr. Hood and members of his family.

Mr. Hood was last seen March 15, 2018 leaving his home on the 20900 block of Avenue 152 in his silver Chrysler Town & Country minivan. He was reported missing by his family that same day.

The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office searched for Mr. Hood, with approximately 30 detectives and volunteers from the Violent Crimes Unit, Tulare Area Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Team (TAGNET), County Apprehension Team Tracking Criminals in Hiding (CATTCH), Agricultural Crimes Unit, Aviation Support Unit and Volunteers in Patrol (VIPs).

Also helping in the search were specialized search K-9s from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.

Ultimately, Hood’s body was recovered at the bottom of a 100-foot ravine in Fort Hunter Liggett on April 27, 2018, near the area where his van was found the day before.

The cause of his death is still pending, as his remains continue to be examined at the University of California Santa Cruz for an anthropological report for the Monterey County Sheriff's Office. His family has been notified.
