On 02/08/18 at 1343 hours, Detectives of the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office responded to a location on the Kings River just south of Avenue 416 after a nearby farmworker had discovered human remains near the river.
The Coroner responded and took possession of the unidentified decedent, believed to have been a missing person based on her clothing description and location.
02/13/18 at 0900 hours, an autopsy was conducted of the decedent and it was determined that she was, in fact, Maria Salma Gray, 68, who had been reported missing on 04/15/17. There were no obvious signs of foul play and it was believed Maria had suffered a drowning incident.
At the time Maria had been reported missing, her vehicle was located about an eighth mile upstream from where she had been discovered and a thorough search of the area was conducted at that time.
Family members have been notified.
