Original news release

On August 28, 2016, a Tulare County Sheriff’s Office deputy was involved in an officer involved shooting.

The deputy was dispatched to the 20000 block of Road 254 in Strathmore at 1804 hours regarding a violation of a domestic violence restraining order. Upon arrival, the male suspect was not on scene. The deputy was provided with the suspect’s description and what he was last seen wearing. As the deputy searched the area, he found a male subject matching the suspect description in the area of Road 254 and Ave 216 in Strathmore at approximately 1812 hours.

The deputy initiated contact with the subject who was immediately uncooperative and ultimately combative. The deputy was assaulted by the suspect. A struggled ensued for the deputy’s firearm which resulted in the deputy discharging his firearm striking the suspect.

The suspect was airlifted by Skylife and was transported to an area hospital. He is considered to be in stable condition and being treated for non-life threatening injuries. He is in custody with charges pending.

At the request of Sheriff Mike Boudreaux, the Porterville Police Department has been asked to investigate the incident. As per protocol, the officer has been placed on paid administrative leave.
