Background:

On 05/05/17 at approximately 0542 hours, Deputies from the Tulare County Sheriff’s Porterville Substation were dispatched to an armed robbery at the Richgrove Handi Mart located at 20600 block of Chaney Drive in Richgrove.

Upon arrival, the reporting party stated a subject with a handgun, wearing a ski mask entered the store and demanded money.  The suspect took money out of the cash registered and fled from the location on foot.  At the time of the robbery, the suspect’s identity was unknown.  Deputies secured the scene and requested Detectives take over the investigation.  

UPDATE:

On 6-29-17 at 0900 hours, Detectives from the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office Property Crimes Unit culminated the investigation with the arrest of Freddy Peres, a 22-year-old resident of Earlimart. 

During the investigation, Detectives were able to identify Peres as the suspect through video evidence recovered at the scene. None of the stolen money was recovered and the weapon used in the commission of the crime remains outstanding.

Peres was formally charged with the robbery, and the case has been submitted to the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office for review.  Peres is currently in custody at the Bob Wiley Detention Facility.
