On May 21st, 2019, TCSO Deputies were called to a home in the 52100 block of Balch Park Road in Springville for a burglary. The victim said a Kawasaki Mule, a Kawasaki ATV and several items from the home, including guns were stolen. The property owner estimated his initial loss to be $26,000. Due to the seriousness of the offense and total loss, Detectives from the Tulare County Sheriff’s General Crimes Investigations and Agriculture Crimes Unit were called out and took over the investigation. Crime Scene Technicians also responded and processed the home for physical evidence.
During the day, Deputies learned another home had been burglarized on the same street. Based on their proximity to each other, Detectives believed the crimes could be connected. Detectives processed the second home in the 51800 Block of Balch Park Road. During the investigation, they discovered the suspect(s) had packed property into bags and boxes, which were left behind. Therefore, they believed the suspect(s) might return to pick up the property.
On May 22nd, 2019 Deputies were called to a suspicious vehicle hauling a trailer in the area where the burglaries occurred. When they arrived, they contacted two men who were stuck in the dirt driveway of a home. The suspects, 29-year-old Brian Cano and 37-year-old James Johnson, were found to be in possession of stolen property directly connected to both burglaries.
Through further investigation, Detectives were able to recover the stolen Kawasaki Mule, Kawasaki ATV and several firearms. The property was returned to its rightful owner. Both suspects were arrested and booked into custody. However, the investigation remains ongoing at this time.
