Tulare County Sheriff’s Department Boating Safety Enforcement Unit was conducting an unrelated vessel stop in the area of Kaweah Recreational on Lake Kaweah. During the vessel stop Deputies observed an adult male and child without life jackets swimming in deep water more than a 100 feet from shore. Upon completion of the vessel stop, Deputies contacted the suspect and found him to be intoxicated. Due to suspect’s level of intoxication, Deputies determined he was unable to care for his safety or the safety of the victim’s while swimming in the lake. The suspect was arrested for child endangerment and booked at the Adult Pre Trail Facility.
Alcohol interferes with balance, coordination and judgment. These effects are heightened by sun exposure and heat. Wear life Jackets and watch your children around water. Remember life jackets save lives. Alcohol and Boating don’t mix.
