Curb and Sidewalk Maintenance
Working Together to Keep Our Streets Safe and Accessible
Safe, well-maintained sidewalks, curbs, and gutters protect pedestrians, improve drainage, and make our neighborhoods more accessible for everyone. Whether you’re walking to school, pushing a stroller, or using a wheelchair, smooth and unobstructed pathways make all the difference.
In Tulare County, keeping these areas in good condition is a shared responsibility between the County and property owners. If your property borders a public street, California law requires you to help maintain adjacent sidewalks and certain improvements in the public right of way. These guidelines are in place to protect the safety, mobility, and quality of life of all residents.
Curb and Sidewalk Maintenance
California Streets and Highway Code section 5610 requires that property owners whose lots are adjacent to any portion of a public street maintain the sidewalks and various private improvements in the public Right of Way.
