Under California law, nonprofit organizations providing housing for lower-income households or elderly/handicapped families may qualify for a Welfare Exemption from property taxes. To claim this exemption, eligible residents must complete and submit the appropriate income reporting worksheet.
Lower Income Households Family Household Income Reporting Worksheet (BOE-267-L-A)
This form is for households residing in properties owned by nonprofit organizations or eligible limited liability companies that provide housing for lower-income families. It determines whether a unit qualifies for the Welfare Exemption based on the family’s income level, which must not exceed 140% of the Area Median Income (AMI).
Elderly or Handicapped Families Household Income Reporting Worksheet (BOE-267-H-A)
This form is for residents of nonprofit housing designated for elderly or handicapped families with low or moderate income. It ensures compliance with the income limits required for the Welfare Exemption.
The housing organization must retain these forms and submit them to the Assessor’s Office with the first or annual Welfare Exemption forms as part of the application process.
