Our Chip Crew will begin chip sealing 75 miles of road in County areas throughout the next four weeks. Chip sealing is one way to keep water from penetrating the road by sealing cracks and raveled surfaces of old pavement. The Chip Seal Program starts on August 19, 2024, and ends on September 12, 2024. Please plan your trips accordingly to avoid delays.
When: August 19 - September 12, 2024
Why: Chip sealing is one way to keep water from penetrating the road by sealing cracks and raveled surfaces of old pavement. This is done by spreading asphalt on to the road, and then embedding gravel, which fills the cracks/holes on the surface. Chip sealing also provides an anti-glare surface in the dark and during rainy weather, and creates a highly skid-resistant surface, especially when the pavement is wet. This year will cover roughly 75 miles of road.
Where: Chip sealing will be done in parts near Tulare, in Tipton, Pixley, Earlimart, Terra Bella, Richgrove, Strathmore, Woodville, Poplar, Balch Park, Yokohl, near Lindsay, Ivanhoe, Cutler-Orosi, and other roads spread between cities.
